About Me

I’m Shaila Martin, a counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), and personal development coach. I help women navigate the treacherous terrain of life. My approach is warm and empathetic and at the same time direct, but in a good-for-you way.

With the peaks and valleys of life, think of me as your personal “transitions sherpa.” I can help you navigate the challenging terrain. Together, we will explore the root causes of your struggles and develop effective coping skills and strategies so you can reach your destination of long-term healing and well-being.

Transitions can be difficult to integrate into our lives. I’ve been down this bumpy road of major life transitions myself and have learned that with support, life can be embraced and not dreaded.

Are you facing one of these changes? I want to hear your stories, help you discover what you want, and clear a path for getting there.

  • Loss of a loved one
  • Transitioning in or out of retirement
  • Personal health changes or aging issues
  • Menopause anxiety and depression
  • Empty nesting
  • Messy middle / mid-life crisis
  • Adjusting to motherhood
  • Adjusting to grandmotherhood
  • Career shift
  • Starting or ending a relationship
  • Coping with evolving family relationships
  • Experiencing the dynamics of marriage

Shaila Martin

  • Grief Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Strength-based techniques, and holistic approaches

Sessions are conducted through Telehealth or In-person in-home visits. You can expect effective results from my unique combination of humor, empathy, future-focused problem solving skills. I will teach you to think outside the box to discover solutions you may not have considered.

Graduation Photo

I earned my Bachelor’s in Psychology from Westmont College and a Master of Social Work from The University of Denver. I’ve worked in diverse therapeutic settings, including residential treatment, community integration mental health programs, preschool education administration, women’s support groups, weight loss coaching, foster care parent coaching, hospital and emergency departments case management, and food and nicotine addictions.

My Process

My journey to becoming a counselor began after I watched The Bob Newhart Show. I loved how Bob helped his therapy clients with practicality and compassion. He inspired me to pursue an education in counseling and mental health. That passion grew as I successfully helped people through their busy lives and personal battles. My experience as a wife and mother gave me the insight needed to help women through various life seasons. Having endured a physical health crisis after my fourth son was born, I learned quickly how a woman’s mental health has very specific needs. This started me down the path of learning how women’s physical health impacts their mental and spiritual well-being. Having experienced a lot of life transitions, some planned and others unscheduled, like becoming a young widow, I dove in deep to understanding the value of each life change. I learned how to hold joy and sorrow at the same time. Knowing personally that getting from Point A to B in life involves grief and loss, I want others to know that they are not alone and I’m here to help. No matter where you are on your journey, I am here to help you on your path.
